Elumbu or bone sambhar

Ingredients :

          Mutton bone - 1/2 lb (cooked and had from soup)
          Egg plant or brinjal - 2
          Drumstick - 5 pieces      
          Onion - 1/2 (chopped)
          Tomato 1/2 (chopped)
          Thuvaram paruppu or toor dhal - 1 cup (cooked and mashed)
          Kuzhambu podi - 1 tsp
          Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
          Green chilies - 3 (halved)
          Ginger and garlic crushed - 1 tsp
          For tempering - fennel seeds, kalpasi poo or  stone flower and cinnamon
          Coriander leaves
          Salt
          Oil

Method :

          In a pressure cooker add oil, once oil heat up add fennel seeds, kalpasi and cinnamon. Then add onion,green chilly,coriander leaves and tomato, fry well. Then add drumstick,brinjal and mutton bones. Mix well. Add the cooked dhal,turmeric powder,kuzhambu podi,turmeric powder,ginger and garlic paste and salt. After mixing all those things, check thickness of the sambhar and cover it with cooker lid and put the whistle, and cook it till 3 whistles come. Serve with hot rice or any kind of biriyani. This is a great side dish for biriyani in south tamil nadu.
